2017 Service Opportunities

2017 Schedule

Our congregation has at its core a servant's heart formed by our Lord Jesus Christ who first served us. Empowered by God's unconditional love in Jesus Christ our congregation is embracing 2017 as a year of service. We will focus on one part of our community to serve each month. It is our desire to build up each other to see the vital importance of service as part of the life of all who are in Christ. As each month approaches, we will be sending out more information on volunteer and serving opportunites.

Serving Those Who Serve Us - Area Nurses

"I wanted to let you know how grateful the nurses were who received the baskets from Jordan. I delivered the first one to the nurses in the Emergency Department at the Apex Healthplex. They were so excited!  I had called several days prior to delivery and spoke with the charge nurse Barry. When I arrived Barry and his crew greeted me with smiling faces. One nurse asked "Why are we getting this?"  I explained how our Live Here Serve Here mission works and they all thought it was so wonderful. One nurse came out of a room and saw the basket and said "Yes! Pens, and they're the good ones!".

My next stop was at the UNC Hospice Office in Pittsboro. I spent quite a while speaking with Lisa the intake nurse about our church, then about how God is such a part of the work they do at hospice. She shared stories about patients never having Christ in their lives, but who at the end often want to learn more. How she felt this was her calling and it has made her life so much more meaningful. It was a wonderful conversation that really touched me and I am so happy that I had the opportunity to meet her. She said the delivery of goodies came at the right time as they have their weekly staff meeting the next morning and she would share the basket with all the other nurses then.

I brought the last basket to Chatham Hospital where I work. I had originally discussed the project and got suggestions from my coworkers for the baskets. They were really grateful for all the wonderful items.

I can't thank everyone enough for donating items and letting me have the pleasure of delivering these - God is good!!"

2017 - February

Serving the Hungry
Jordan delivered a total of 613.5 pounds of rice and beans to Western Wake Crisis Ministry. Thank you to everyone who donated and those who aided in our sorting and serving the hungry this February.

Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst." (John 6:35 ESV)

2017 - January

Serving Pregnant Mothers and the Unborn
Thank you to all who supported January's Live Here-Serve Here as Jordan blessed pregnant mothers and the unborn. The 9 Prayer Shawls, 4,276 wipes, 2,944 diapers and 4 car seats were delivered to Hand of Hope Pregnancy Resource Center. The donations will be used as part of their "earn as you learn" parenting classes. Classes are taught to moms and dads in a student-driven format to prepare them for the new life joining their family. As they take classes they earn "parenting bucks" that permit them to receive the donated items we contributed to the center. This ensures the parents are being equipped for the new addition to their family as well as receiving the items they will need to welcome a precious gift from the Lord into their homes. Life has great value at all of its many stages.

For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. (Psalm 139:13 ESV)

2016 - December

December Focus – Children

In December, Jordan collected 80 toys for the local Christmas Store which provides toys for at-risk families in the area. We were glad to partner with local churches and organizations to make Christmas a special one for children in need.

2016 - November

November Focus – Homeless

Two service days were highlighted to serve the homeless in downtown Raleigh through our Matthew Ministry program. Supplies were given to those in need at the Oak City Outreach Center and prayer requests were received and prayed over immediately and during our worship services.

2016 - October

October Focus – Inmates

Collections were made for a local ministry called Pardoned by Christ which assists inmates as they transition back into life after prison. Hygiene items, towels, sheets, and other daily necessities were collected to support this ministry.

2016 - September

September Focus – Neighbors

This month our attention was on caring for our neighbors. We were challenged on how we can serve someone who lives near us. Perhaps it is making a meal, helping them with a repair project or sitting with them to form a friendship. Jordan lived out the calling we were given in the Lord to be disciples of Christ who "love our neighbor as yourself" (Luke 10:27). Part of being a disciple of Christ is modeling the life we are called to live to one another.

2016 - August

August Focus – Older Adults

In August we celebrated the gift we have in our midst of being a church with multiple generations present. At the close of worship we laid hands on the older members of the congregation and offered to them a single red carnation as a reminder of the work of the Holy Spirit. After worship visits were made to many shut-ins who were given their own red carnation as well as a card from the congregation with Psalm 133:1 written on it as a reminder of the joy we have in gathering together in our shared faith.

Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity! (Psalm 133:1 ESV)

Thank you to everyone who made home visits and reinforced to those who are away that we are one body in Christ.

2016 - July

July Focus – Students

Collection was underway for school supplies for our Back To School Bonanza. Thank you to everyone who donated to help us reach our goal of serving 80 kids in our community! On the 20th, we gathered to sort and prepare all the supplies for our distribution event on Sunday, August 21. We served over 50 children who came to the theater on Sunday and later distributed several more students later in the week. On Friday all the extra supplies were donated to local schools in Apex.

2016 - June

June Focus – Global Community

One of the best ways to support the global community is to support those in each region on the field. Immediately following the worship service every Sunday in June the entire congregation will be invited to come down to the altar to sign cards going to missionary families around the world. This month our Live Here, Serve Here focus is on caring for our global community which includes those missionaries who daily are sharing the love of Christ in thought, word and deed. Each week in June we will pray for each missionary family by name and sign the cards going to a different region of the world.

2016 - May

May Focus - Local Community

The month of May we are emphasizing service to our local community. As a congregation we worked together to do some trail maintenance at the Hemlock Bluffs Nature Preserve (2616 Kildaire Farm Rd., Cary). Volunteers assisted the park service in maintaining the trails in the park.

2016 - April

April Focus – Homebound

During the month of April our attention is on those whose health make leaving their homes a challenge during the week. On Saturday, April 30 from 9-11 a.m. our congregation will be doing yard work for a homebound member who is unable to keep up with yard maintanence.

2016 - March

March Focus - Those Who Serve Us

During the month of March, Jordan created gift baskets to deliver to local police and fire departments. Gift basket items included: hand warmers, hand sanitizer, energy drinks, Gatorade, water, gum, peanuts, small bags of pretzels, peanut butter crackers, protein bars, and granola bars. Five area fire departments and police stations received these gifts of thanks for their work in protecting and watching over our communties.

2016- February

February Focus - the Hungry

In February, Jordan members served the hungry in our area by donating and sorting 842 lbs. of rice and beans to Western Wake Crisis Ministry in Apex.

2016 - January
